Chinese waterfront leisure market demands and inter-regional tourism initiatives

Chinese economy continues rapid development under the new normal state. With intensive interaction with the Asian-Pacific tourism market, tourism demands grow explosively with the economic structural reforms, global connectivity of lifestyles and consumption. China's outbound tourism industry has many new changes in 2017. Waterfront Resort Tourism and medical tourism industry has become the new trend in domestic and overseas leisure consumption. The 22nd CIBS - China (Shanghai) International Boat Show is the biggest annual boat show in Asia-Pacific inter-region and searches synergies with global and inter-regional tourism development initiatives, such as the 2017 International Year of Sustainable Tourism and the EU-China Tourism Year in 2018. Nowadays, the world maritime leisure industry is becoming more diversified in vessels, equipment, routes, services, activities and environmental-social impacts. To enjoy a trip on water is not necessary a high-end luxury any more, but become more popular activities for sporting, fun and recovery. Although distance between East and West declines and opportunities increase, the maritime leisure industry in the different parts of the world also faces greater challenges from rapid societal and technologies shifts, as well as environmental hazards. Different from travels on land, traveling on water has its own speed, views, goals and people. New challenges and needs for the maritime leisure industry lie in the communication to raise public, policy and economic interests, to facilitate and interconnect destinations at ocean, sea, rivers, lakes and waters, to greet this fundamental resource of our planet.

As special heights of CIBS 2017, China and European maritime exchanges have deep historical roots from the Maritime Silk Road and inherited diverse and fascinating East-West cultures. The bilateral governmental stimulation from the two global economic players of EU-China Tourism Year and European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 will be a valuable opportunity for European waterfront leisure tourism industry to enter China market, exchange with Chinese professionals, and enlarge their professional travel routes and wider customer networks.

With this background, 2017 Topic of the 22nd CIBS DREAM DESTINATIONS is “The Storytellers – Depart from Sea and Water”. It invites maritime professionals, port managers, marina operators, sailors and boat designers etc. from Europe, China, North America, Asia, and South America and all over the world to its special expo and event area of DREAM DESTINATIONS. Representing their organizations, programs or initiatives, they could meet in cyberspace or at the expo, tell interesting stories to the travelers and tourists from their professional lives and daily operations, with inspiring and unforgettable travels at maritime environments. In this way, they could promote high quality maritime holiday routes and locations to the CIBS expo in Shanghai. The stories in 250 English words or more, could choose 1 or more from the following topics. They should not overtone but could inhabit certain commercial messages:

2.       Individual understanding of West and East maritime history and culture, with reflection to local destinations (Maritime Silk Road / other heritage maritime routes)

(1)     We build a variety of display opportunities for you to maximize the exhibition promotion and publicity such booth, panel, brochure, network ads etc.

(2)     We introduce overseas waterfront resorts as well as related activities onsite to our visitors. In the meantime, we will distribute the brochures of the waterfront leisure vacation dream destination to them so that they will get information to go overseas for holidays.

(3)     Although it is a 4-day exhibition, our services are 365-day around the year. We will organize domestic waterfront resort enthusiasts to travel abroad. We will assist you get a good business relationship with Chinese partners.
